Professional Teeth Whitening in Türkiye
A supervised, enamel-conscious way to lighten the natural shade of your teeth.
What professional whitening is
Professional whitening is a dentist-supervised treatment that lightens the natural colour of teeth using hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide gels. It differs from over-the-counter products by allowing higher concentrations with protection for the gums and soft tissues.
It changes the shade of natural tooth structure only. It does not alter existing fillings, crowns or veneers.
Professional whitening is usually preceded by a hygiene visit, as plaque and tartar can block the gel and cause uneven results. Your dentist can also explain which of your stains are likely to respond and which may need another approach, such as veneers or bonding.
How the treatment works
The gel penetrates the enamel and breaks down pigment molecules that cause staining. Before treatment, the teeth are cleaned and the gums are protected with a barrier or a custom tray.
Some clinics use a light or laser to activate the gel, although the added benefit of such devices is debated. Take-home trays with a milder gel are also commonly provided to maintain the shade.

Who is a suitable candidate
Whitening is suitable for most adults with healthy teeth and gums who want a lighter shade. It tends to work well on yellowish staining from food, drinks and ageing.
It may be less predictable on grey or brown intrinsic stains, such as those related to some medications. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and teeth with untreated decay or exposed roots should be treated first. A dentist should assess suitability individually.
Procedure day, recovery and results timeline
The appointment is typically completed in a single visit. There is no downtime, and you can usually return to normal activities immediately.
Temporary sensitivity or gum irritation can appear within the first 24 to 48 hours. For a short period, avoiding strongly coloured foods and drinks and smoking is advised. The shade is usually evident straight away and may settle slightly in the following days.
To help maintain the shade, many dentists suggest brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste and limiting staining drinks, or using a straw, for the first days after treatment.
Risks and important considerations
The most common effects are sensitivity and gum irritation, which are generally temporary. Results vary between individuals and are not permanent, as staining habits such as coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco can darken teeth again.
Whitening will not match existing restorations, so these may need replacement afterwards if shade differences are noticeable. Having any planned dental work assessed first helps to achieve a balanced result.
